Biosolids Compost – A Natural Alternative
Oquirrh Mountain Compost provides a natural alternative to industrially produced chemical fertilizers. It is produced through carefully controlled biological decomposition of treated biosolids and wood chips. The composting process produces sufficient heat to kill pathogenic bacteria and produces a stabilized, nutrient rich product that improves the chemical, physical, and biological characteristics of poor sandy or clay soils found in Utah. Oquirrh Mountain Compost helps retain moisture in sandy soils, restores tilth to clay soils, helps control erosion, and provides valuable macro and micro nutrients to the plants' root zones. Use of Oquirrh Mountain Compost is a “green” activity and assists many people in meeting their personal recycling goals.
Biosolids Compost Products
Oquirrh Mountain Compost Products produces three compost products. All have been subjected to the rigorously controlled composting process.
Compost Mulch – this is Oquirrh Mountain Compost's standard compost product and consists of approximately 60% fine compost and 40% 2 inch +/- wood chips.
Screened Compost – compost mulch is passed through a screen to produce a ½ inch fine compost product for top dressing of lawns and maximum workability.
Compost Wood Chips – this byproduct of the screening process consists of aesthetically “weathered” ½ - 2" wood chips with an initial dark compost coloration.

Applications
Oquirrh Mountain Compost may be used for a variety of horticultural applications. The following table lists the most common uses for the three Oquirrh Mountain Compost products. In all cases, the compost product will yield valuable nutrients to planting materials and improve soil workability and water retention. As with any high-nutrient product, care should be taken not to over-apply Oquirrh Mountain Compost.
